The program will allow young professionals from LDCs and SIDS to serve at IRENA Headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, or at its office in Bonn, Germany, for a year (renewable to two years), with the goal of building capacity for addressing renewable energy issues in SIDS and LDCs and providing experience in an intergovernmental organization setting. Participating governments would be required to release selected staff to the Agency for a period of one or two years, under a loan arrangement. The Agency will cover the cost of travel, medical insurance, and a monthly lump sum to help candidates with their living expenses, by the current Associate Professional program features. The intention is that after the mission, they will return to their release government. To guarantee an open and competitive process, the Agency has posted a vacancy notice on its website that outlines the occupational areas to be covered and the profiles that will be considered for candidates from LDCs and SIDS. Once selected, the Agency would contact the selected individual’s government to enter into a loan agreement with the appropriate releasing office.
