NL Scholarships for Incoming International Students are made to assist foreign students who want to study for a bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands but are not from the European Economic Area (EEA).
A specialized, global center for higher education and research, Breda University of Applied Sciences offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. About 7,000 students attend our small, secure, and environmentally friendly campus in Breda, the Netherlands. We collaborate on worthwhile projects with people from around the world’s industry in both our research and education.

Scholarship Overview
The NL Scholarship is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, along with Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. It is intended for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands. To manage the number of applications and ensure a fair selection process, the scholarship is exclusively available to non-EU applicants.
Benefits
The following are the benefits of the NL Scholarships for Incoming International Students:
- A €5,000 stipend to help with living expenses in the Netherlands.
- Once you arrive in the Netherlands, Breda University of Applied Sciences will pay you the scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for, applicants must:
- Not spent more than 12 months in Europe throughout the previous five years;
- Never studied in the Netherlands, unless it was for a semester or two as an exchange student;
- Possess outstanding academic standing from their undergraduate studies;
- Possess outstanding fluency in the English language;
- Possess a letter offering admission to a bachelor’s program from Breda University of Applied Sciences;
- In your motivation letter, explain why you are the best person to get the Breda University of Applied Sciences NL Scholarship and how you want to spread the word about the school back home.
Documents Required to Apply
The following documents are required to apply for:
- The application form (Word file)
- Letter of motivation
- English test results (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge or inform us if you are exempted)
- CPE, or Certificate of Proficiency in English, or CAE, or Cambridge Advanced Certificate The IELTS exam requires a minimum speaking subscore of 6.0 and an overall band score of 6.0.
- A minimum internet-based score of 80 and a minimum speaking subscore of 20 are required for the TOEFL* exam.
- Exemption from English Test Results:
- You can enroll in an English-language program without submitting your English language exam results if
- In a country where English is the primary language of instruction, such as Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America, you are a Dutch havo or vwo graduate. You have earned a diploma that is listed among the diplomas that Nuffic has compiled, and one of your exam subjects was English. View the diploma list in PDF format.

Deadline
Between November 1st and May 1st, you can apply for the scholarship.
Application Procedure
- Only after receiving an admission letter for one of our bachelor’s programs at BUas can you submit an application for the scholarship. The following files can be sent to scholarships@buas.nl:
- The application (Word document)
- English exam results (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, or let us know if you are exempt) and a letter of motivation
- The fellowship is open for applications from November 1 through May 1.
