University Overview

The University of Portland is home to more than 1,000 teaching members and staff members, as well as more than 3,500 undergraduate students from all over the country and the world. Situated in a residential neighborhood with a number of attractive old residences, our school is situated on a picturesque promontory. It is this stunning location that gives UP its nickname, “The Bluff,” with a view of the Willamette River and Portland.

Scholarship Overview

A number of foreign student are given International Scholarships at University of Portland for Undergraduates to both new and returning international students. The beneficiaries of the scholarships will get notification of their award along with their acceptance letter from the University of Portland. The scholarships are given out at the time of admission (no separate application is required).

New overseas students are given scholarships based on their academic performance. Based on their cumulative incoming GPA and, if relevant, first-year students’ SAT or ACT test results, applicants will be evaluated for a variety of award amounts. The International Student Services office or other appropriate credential evaluation services will convert applicant grades from foreign curricula.

Benefits of the International Scholarships at University of Portland for Undergraduates

  • No separate application is required for the scholarships, which are given out at the time of admission. Recipients will get news of their award along with their acceptance letter from the University of Portland.
  • At the University of Portland, scholarships are awarded to recipients for the duration of their program, with funds distributed equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • For instance, a $5,000 annual scholarship would provide $2,500 for each semester. Please note that scholarships are not offered for the summer semester.
  • The International Student Scholarship cannot be combined with other merit-based scholarships; if a student is eligible for multiple awards, only the larger scholarship will be applied to their account.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic merit determines which new overseas students receive scholarships.
  • Candidates will be evaluated for a variety of award amounts according to their cumulative entering GPA and, if relevant, the results of their first-year SAT or ACT exams.
  • Applicants who qualify must fulfill the following requirements:
  • Candidates need to be formally admitted to the university.
  • Citizens and residents of a nation or countries other than the United States who are planning to attend a university in the US under legal nonimmigrant status (F-1, J-1, H-4, etc.).

Documents Required to Apply

There are following Documents required for International Scholarships at University of Portland for Undergraduates:

  • Online applications for freshmen are available at up.edu/admissions/apply.
  • $50 is required for the application.
  • Transcripts or reports from official secondary school exams in the native language with an English translation
  • Recommendation from a teacher or counselor
  • Essay
  • Official transcripts from the university, if any
  • Only NCAA student athletes and students enrolled for three or more years in the United States are obliged to take the optional SAT or ACT.

Deadline

  • To receive an admissions decision within four weeks, please apply and submit all required documents by the Early Action (EA) of December 1.
  • The Regular Decision (RD) deadline is February 15.
